Originally developed as a martial art, Tai Chi has evolved into a widely practiced form of gentle exercise that emphasizes balance, breath control, and strength to reduce fall risk and improve overall wellness.<br /><br />The Tai Chi for Arthritis and Fall Prevention program is based on the traditional Sun 73 competition form but has been modified and simplified for easy learning and safety. It was developed collaboratively by Tai Chi masters and medical professionals to focus on core Tai Chi principles while maximizing health benefits and minimizing injury risk.<br /><br />Tai Chi improves fall prevention through three key elements: breathing techniques, enhanced balance, and increased strength. Its community programs are supported by a variety of partners, including local Area Agencies on Aging, senior centers, colleges, universities, parks and recreation departments, libraries, and faith-based organizations.<br /><br />Instructor training workshops are available through TaiChi.org to prepare leaders to deliver these programs within communities.
