Program Overview
Blood Products and Utilization of Blood for Massive Hemorrhage is a course offered in Series 3 of Trauma University, presented at TCAA's 2019 Annual Conference. Course topics are contributed by TCAA members and are designed to provide practitioners with clinical education opportunities. The purpose of this activity is to guidance on blood products and transfusion practices.

Learning Objectives
At the conclusion of this course, the learner should be better able to:
1. Discuss clinical applications of blood components for massive transfusion
2. Restate when it is okay to use O pos vs. O neg RBC for emergency transfusion
3. Identify new trends in blood transfusion practices for massive hemorrhage

Faculty Presenter: Dr. Marissa Li

Presenter Bio
Dr. Marissa Li is the Southwest and West Division Medical Director for Vitalant and Assistant Medical Director for LifeStream Blood Center. She completed her bachelors of sciences degree in neuroscience at UCLA in 2001. Continuing her studies at UCLA she completed her MD degree in 2005. Following one year of internal medicine internship at Kaiser Permanente Hospital, Los Angeles she then completed a pathology residency at Cedars Sinai Medical Center in Los Angeles. Dr. Li subsequently obtained two years of transfusion medicine training both at Cedars Sinai Medical Center and UCLA Medical Center. Her responsibilities include providing clinical consultation to hospitals serviced by Vitalant and LifeStream. Her interests in clinical transfusion medicine include immunohematology, platelet refractoriness, therapeutic apheresis and patient blood management. On the blood center side, Dr. Li is an integral member of the operations and manufacturing departments. Additionally, she has an active role in providing medical guidance on corporate policies and oversight to Vitalant blood centers for both donor and patient related issues.
