Program Overview
The purpose of the TCAA course, Cascading Effects of Infrastructure Failure (a previous live webinar), is to provide critical information about preparing for and responding to chiller and infrastructure failures.

Estimated completion time: 60 minutes

Target Audience: The Trauma healthcare team and other clinical departments

Learning Objectives
At the conclusion of this course, the learner should be better able to:
1. Identify potential issues with trauma care delivery when a chiller fails.

2. Discuss response and recovery during and after an event.
3. Describe critical infrastructure sectors which can affect the delivery of trauma care.

Faculty Presenter: Dr. Sydney Vail, Anne Newcombe and Diana Leonard

Presenter Bio
Sydney Vail, MD, FACS is Chairman of the Department of Surgery and a member of the Division of Trauma, Surgical Critical Care& Acute Care Surgery at Valleywise Health Medical Center (formally MIHS/Maricopa Medical Center), in Phoenix, AZ. He is also Associate Professor of Surgery at Creighton University School of Medicine-Phoenix . He is an active clinical surgeon and teacher, and provides outreach education and presentations across the United States. Dr. Vail is a consultant and educator to several branches of our military special operations forces medical personnel, law enforcement, Dept. of Homeland Security medical teams and Customs and Border Patrol. He is a deploying member of the AZ DPS/State Police SWAT team providing Tactical Medical Support and is the EMS Director for Customs & Border Protection Tucson and Yuma Sectors. He lectures nationally on trauma & disaster topics, prolonged field care and law enforcement issues, as well as publishes on the same topics.

Anne Newcombe is the former Clinical Director of Emergency Services at Harborview Medical Center in Seattle and the Emergency Management Liaison for the UW Medicine Health System. She obtained her Registered General Nurse (RGN) from Nottingham School of Nursing, UK, BSc (Hons) from the University of Manchester, UK. Diploma in Health Services Management from the Royal College of Nursing, London, UK, Certificate in Professional Practice (Trauma Nursing) from the University of Nottingham, UK and a Masters (Distinction) in Clinical Health Management from Aston University, Birmingham, UK. Anne has experience in Emergency and Trauma Nursing, terrorism response, hospital emergency and disaster preparedness in the UK and USA. Other areas of focus are on development of regional Disaster Medical Control Centers, hospital all-hazard preparedness and engaging local hospitals and healthcare organizations in disaster planning and response. Anne has been an active participant in many regional groups, including representing UW Medicine on the board of the Northwest Healthcare Response Network. Anne is the past chair of the Trauma Center Association of America Disaster Committee.

Diana is a Certified Healthcare Emergency Professional with over 24 years of experience in public safety and emergency management.  Diana served as a dual role of police officer and fire fighter for 10 years and then transitioned into emergency management for public health and healthcare.  Diana is a Certified Healthcare Safety Professional and has served in a leadership role for local and national level events and exercises.  Diana serves on the Executive Board of the MESH Coalition as well as the Disaster Preparedness Committee of the Trauma Center Association of America (TCAA).  She also participates in the Medical Reserve Corp., and is an alumnus of the Center for Domestic Preparedness Healthcare Leadership course in Anniston, Alabama.
