Navigating the Landmines of Recruiting, Onboarding and Retention of Trauma Registrars

Description: This session focuses on refining your trauma programs recruitment, onboarding, and retention practices for trauma registrars. This session will discuss diverse recruitment strategies to attract a wider range of qualified candidates. As well as explore onboarding outlines to ensure new employees feel prepared, supported, and valued from day one. Lastly, Niki will expand on strategies to improve staff retention, to lead towards increasing employee satisfaction and reducing turnover.

  • Discuss multiple approached to recruitment to increase your applicant pool 
  • Review onboarding outlines to ensure successful completion of orientation
  • Describe possible techniques for retention of staff members once hired

Niki Rasnake     

Bio: Ms. Rasnake received her BSN in nursing in 1995 at UVM in Burlington VT. After graduation,  joined the US Air Force in 1998. While stationed at Wilford Hall Medical Center in San Antonio, Texas, worked in the PACU/Critical Care/ED while supporting the 59th Medical Wing.  In 2007 Joined the UTMC ED leadership team after a family move from Texas to Tennessee.  In 2011 was appointed Trauma Program Manager (TPM) role for busy level I regional trauma center in which during tenure as the TPM at the University of Tennessee Medical Center,  successfully achieved the American College of Surgeons Level I trauma verification in 2014 and again in 2018. Currently a Fundamental of Critical Care support (FCCS) and Advanced Trauma Life support (ATLS) course coordinator and has successfully coordinated over 150 courses.  In 2022 the family made a move to Naples Florida from Tennessee, currently working as Trauma Program Manager at Level II trauma center at Gulf Coast Medical Center, Fort Myers.
