Justin Milici will address special considerations when performing primary and secondary surveys on transgender patients, emphasizing the importance of inclusive communication, respectful history-taking, and awareness of anatomical variations due to gender-affirming procedures. Presenter: Justin Milici
Justin is a masters prepared nurse with over 38 years of experience. Justin has presented around the country numerous times on transgender and gender-expansive care. In addition to being a presenter, Justin has served as an author and contributing author for several books on the subject of transgender and gender-expansive care, including the Emergency Nurses Association’s (ENA) Sheehy’s Manual of Emergency Care and Emergency Nursing Core Curriculum. Justin served as Chair and contributing author for ENA’s “LGBTQ Toolkit for Emergency Care Settings” work group and authored the Society of Pediatric Nurses’ (SPN) “Caring for the Transgender Patient”. In 2017, Justin authored the first resolution on transgender care for the ENA General Assembly, which passed. Justin also authored the ENA Topic Brief, “Care of the Gender-expansive and Transgender Patient in the Emergency Care Setting”, and “The Gender-diverse and Transgender Patient: A Special Population in Trauma Care” for the Journal of Emergency Nursing. Justin holds a master of science in nursing degree and currently works as a Clinical Editor for Elsevier Clinical Solutions. Justin has clinical backgrounds in emergency, trauma, pediatrics, and nursing education.
