Program Overview
Trauma for the Bedside Nurse: From Chaos to Concise is a course offered in series one of Trauma University, which debuted at TCAA's 2017 Annual Conference. Course topics are contributed by TCAA members and are designed to provide practitioners with clinical education opportunities. The purpose of this activity is to introduce ways to insure effective nursing response and coordination in trauma.

Target Audience: The Trauma healthcare team and other clinical departments

Learning Objectives
At the conclusion of this course, the learner should be better able to:
1. Discuss the importance of a system approach to trauma
2. Identify two ways to improve communication in the trauma room and between services
3. List how a TNL program helps with engagement
4. Identify one evidence-based process that could benefit your trauma patients
5. Discuss how patient advocacy drives change

Faculty Presenter: Lisa Schwing, RN

Presenter Bio

Lisa Schwing, RN, is the trauma program manager at the Soin Pediatric Trauma and Emergency Center in Dayton Ohio.

Prior to that, Schwing worked at Dayton Children’s for 7 years as the emergency department resource educator. She has 17 years of adult emergency department experience; working at St. Elizabeth Medical Center and Miami Valley Hospital emergency departments. Schwing attended Miami Valley Hospital School of Nursing. She is actively involved in Safe Kids Greater Dayton, a local organization dedicated to preventing childhood injuries and is a certified child passenger safety technician.  Ms. Schwing is active with teaching TNCC at Wright Patterson AFB. She is also active with regional and state trauma organizations.
