2025 Trauma University: The Story of “Rebar-Man”
This compelling, multidisciplinary case study follows the remarkable rescue and treatment of a construction worker impaled by rebar after an 18-foot fall. Presented by members of the Paterson Fire Department and St. Joseph’s University Medical Center, this session highlights the coordination, innovation, and precision required in low-frequency, high-risk trauma scenarios. From extrication planning and field stabilization to surgical intervention and recovery, this module underscores the critical importance of teamwork, communication, and clinical expertise in saving lives under extreme conditions.

Jideofor Aniukwu: Jideofor Aniukwu is a trauma surgeon at St. Joseph’s University Medical Center in northern New Jersey. He is interested in injury prevention projects. He trained at Thomas Jefferson University Hospital for fellowship and Montefiore Medical Center for residency.
