TCAA's Trauma University is designed to provide practitioners with cutting edge clinical education. This immersive journey unravels the intricacies of geriatric trauma management, highlighting both challenges and successes, with a special focus on the distinctive landscape of rural trauma care. Mr. M is an 87-year-old patient who presented to a non-trauma designated hospital after being trampled by pigs. He reports he was on the family farm when he was “knocked down and kicked by 4 pigs.” The OSH transferred him to a level 1 trauma center for polytrauma. On Day 11, patient is transferred to rehab.

This session goes beyond the clinical aspect, shedding light on how challenges in trauma care have influenced outreach and education. Gain a deeper understanding of how these experiences have shaped the development of outreach programs and educational initiatives, incorporating the specific resources available in diverse settings.

Faculty Bios:

Beth Broering: Trauma and Burn Program Manager at VCU Medical Center for more than 10 years.

Robin Schrader: Robin is a member of TCAA Registry Education Committee, ATS CSTR Leadership Advisory Council, ATS CSTR Mentor program, and an ATS ICD10 coding instructor. Robin’s background includes over 31 years in the healthcare industry with 16 of those years spent in Trauma Registry. Robin has worked as a Trauma Registrar, PI Coordinator, and Registry Manager for several Level I Adult, Level I Pediatric and ABA verified Burn Centers in those years. She has also worked for the Pennsylvania Trauma Systems Foundation as a Registry Auditor/Educator.
