Program Overview
The accurate capturing of hospital events is essential for a trauma center as they review their risk adjusted benchmarking reports. This course will guide you through some of the ins and outs of the data element definitions, as well as some of the key electronic medical records areas in which to locate this valuable information. In this course you will have the opportunity to test your “does this count” knowledge!

1. Categorize key areas within the Electronic Medical Record that are valuable information sources for hospital events.
2. Apply your working knowledge of hospital events to validate case scenarios.
3. Describe standardized data abstraction and validaion processes for accurate capture of hospital events.

Presenter Bios
Michelle Pomphrey began her work in trauma registries in 1993 by establishing the University of Virginia Health Systems registry program. She joined the American Trauma Society in 1994 and was a founding member of the Trauma Registrar’s Council serving as their first elected chair in 1996. Michelle served on the ATS Board of Directors for 16 years, as well as the national course coordinator for the ATS Trauma Registrar course. In this role, she taught classes throughout the country for 16 years. Michelle has been active with the American College of Surgeons over the years, serving as a clinical consultant and data auditor for the National Sample Project and TQIP. She has served as a committee member for the NTDB, TQIP, and TQIP training committees as well as a guest speaker for several TQIP conferences. She established Pomphrey Consulting in 2000 and has been serving the trauma community throughout the country ever since.
Vicki Burton, CSTR, CAISS is the Vice President of Education for Pomphrey Consulting. She has been in the trauma field for over 20 years. She has been involved with hospital verification and reverification on the state and ACS level. Her passions, regarding trauma and the registry, are education and validation.
Gart Buck, CSTR & CAISS is the Vice President of Operations at Pomphrey Consulting. He has been working in Trauma Registry for 7 years and has worked in 15 states with over 20 Hospitals. Gart has worked as a content expert and taught Data Validation and Productivity for Pomphrey Consulting at National Conferences.
